Suspected terrorists have launched an attack on Tsafe town, the headquarters of Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing the Commander of the Community Protection Guards (CPGs) and abducting an unspecified number of people.

The terrorists who divided themselves into two groups, were said to have invaded the town at about midnight

One of the groups went into the town while the other went to Tsafe College of Health Sciences, which was believed to be their target.

They were said to have stormed the town on motorcycles, wielding sophisticated weapons, and unleashed terror on innocent citizens.

Eyewitness accounts said the terrorists were denied freedom of action by the vigilant troops and members of the Community Protection Guards, CPGs, who engaged them in a gun battle for several hours, where the commander of the CPGs paid the supreme price.

The account also disclosed that the terrorists invaded the house in which construction workers of Setrako Company were residing, and whisked away the occupants to the forest.

Two operational Hilux vehicles of the Community Protection Guards, (CPGs), and other valuable assets were set ablaze by the terrorists.

It was revealed that it took the prompt intervention of the troops to foil the attack, and reduced the havoc that the terrorists would have wreaked in the town.

Efforts to get the police to confirm the incident were unsuccessful, as Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent, ASP Yazid Abubakar, did not respond to calls and WhatsApp messages sent to him.
