Taraba State Government has urged children not to be deterred from following their educational pursuit in the face of challenges, as the state finally marks the 2026 Children’s Day.
The Children’s Day which was marked belatedly, was low-key, with a solemn procession in solidarity with kidnapped children in Oyo State, and other parts of the country.
Rather than the usual march pass and funfair that usually accompany Children’s Day celebration, the 2026 edition was marked in Jalingo, Taraba State with a solemn procession by school children.
The procession is in solidarity with kidnapped children in Oyo State and other parts of the country, and also teachers.
The Taraba State Government however gave assurances to the children on their safety, inclusion and a better future.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Mary Sinjein encouraged the children and their parents, to leverage on the free education policy of the State Government, and to be undeterred in their academic pursuit.
Wife of Taraba State Governor, Agyin Kefas who was represented at the event prayed for the safe return of all abducted children.
The children were not also left out in the plea for the Nigerian Government to ensure the safe return of abducted pupils in the country.
The 2026 Children’s Day was also marked without any entertainment performances.
