Enugu State Government in South-East Nigeria has constituted a monitoring and surveillance Task Force to tackle the growing issue of vandalism of water and other public infrastructure.
The Task Force is led by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC in collaboration with other security agencies, as well as select top officials of the State Government
Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, who announced the composition of the Task Force, lamented the deliberate nature of the vandalisation attributing it to sponsored hoodlums aimed at sabotaging government’s efforts in providing essential services, particularly water supply.
He highlighted a recent incident where a large group of hoodlums made attempts to vandalise equipment at a site where new ductile water pipes were being installed near the Holy Ghost Cathedral in Enugu city.
Professor Onyia urged the public to take responsibility for protecting the facilities and to report any suspicious activities or acts of vandalism through established communication channels for swift action.
