The Niger state police command has disclosed that no fewer than three persons have been killed following the violence between the local vigilantes and aggrieved youths in the Kpakungu area of Minna the state capital.
The spokesman for the Police, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, who confirmed the incident, said normalcy has since been restored following the deployment of police tactical teams to the area, who dispersed the rioters, including the free flow of traffic earlier encountered along the Minna-Bida road.
He added that Police patrol teams who were mobilised to the location have restored normalcy, while efforts to arrest the vigilante man and others involved are ongoing.
It was reliably gathered that a group of vigilante men mobilised to the Kpakungu area to arrest some miscreants, and in the process, one of the vigilante members, identified as Taye, shot and killed a victim simply identified as Aliyu, which led to some protests within the area.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 3 around 10pm, which led to some protests within the area along the Minna-Bida road in Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State capital.
Consequently, in the early hours of today, Sunday, October 4, some of the miscreants mobilised and blocked the Bida-Minna road in protest, and also moved to the Gbeganu area and attacked residents.
Reports revealed that in the course of the attack, two persons lost their lives.
