President Bola Tinubu has approved ₦46 billion for the resurfacing and reconstruction of the second runway at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA, as part of efforts “to position Kano among the world’s leading international airports.”

The announcement was made by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, during the commissioning of the newly remodelled Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo Domestic Terminal in Kano on Tuesday.

Keyamo said the investment reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to modernising Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He also disclosed that work has commenced on upgrading the airport’s Hajj Terminal, with contractors already on site.

The minister described Kano as the commercial heartbeat of Northern Nigeria, saying the airport has been earmarked for major upgrades because of its strategic importance to the nation’s economy and aviation sector.

He added “That is why one of your great sons and one of our respected leaders, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, was appointed by Mr. President to chair the Board of FAAN, because of the vision he has for aviation and for this great state.”

The remodelled domestic terminal, named after aviation pioneer Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo, is expected to improve passenger comfort, operational efficiency and service delivery.

The commissioning was attended by FAAN Board Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku, Kano State government representatives, aviation officials and other stakeholders.
