President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to transform Cross River State into an international maritime gateway through the completion of the Calabar-Lagos Coastal Highway and the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport.
The President made the commitment at the APC South-South presidential campaign rally in Calabar, where he also announced plans to site the Gulf of Guinea Commission Secretariat in the state.
The U.J. Esuene Stadium was filled to capacity as thousands of APC supporters, party faithful and support groups converged on Calabar for the South-South presidential campaign rally.
From colourful party displays and campaign banners to music and chants of solidarity, the atmosphere reflected the scale of the political mobilisation.
APC governors, national party leaders and other chieftains gathered to rally support for President Tinubu and the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the crowd, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President, Kashim Shettima, placed Cross River’s economic prospects at the centre of his message, promising that the Calabar-Lagos Coastal Highway and the Deep Sea Port would open the state to greater international trade, investment and tourism.
Governor Bassey Otu, the host governor during the APC South-South presidential campaign rally, called for support for President Tinubu’s re-election, citing improvements in economic growth, productivity and investment under the present administration.
Beyond the stadium rally, President Tinubu and the APC delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Obong of Calabar, who pledged to mobilise Cross Riverians in support of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
