Some traders at the popular Kenyatta Market in Enugu State, South East Nigeria are counting their loss after the State government authorised the demolition of their shops.
The exercise was carried out by the Taskforce of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority for none compliance with the city master plan.
When ait.live visited the market, the affected traders especially those dealing in building materials were busy removing their goods buried in the rubbles.
Some of them expressed shock over the action insisting that the State government did not give them any pre-demolition notice.
But, the Chairman of the Market union, Okechukwu Festus has countered the claim, also insisting that adequate notices were issued to the traders, to relocate to the new permanent market site.
ait.live could not get any comment from the Chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, Kenneth Onoh as telephone calls and text messages sent to his verified phone line, were not responded to.
