Traditional rulers threaten to curse kidnappers, cultists In Cross River State

Cross River State

Following the increase in kidnapping, cultism, and armed robbery in Cross River state, the state Traditional Ruler’s Council has said it will partner security agencies to stem the tides using spiritual tactics.

The council said it will begin to lay “ancestral curses” on kidnappers, cultists and other criminals in the state.

The position of the traditional rulers which was contained in a statement signed by its chairman, Etiyin Etim Okon- Edet, and made available to newsmen in Calabar said the decision was to foster peace in Cross River state.

“Okon who confirmed the position of the traditional rulers to AIT’s Rasheed Olanrewaju on phone said it was in keeping to “our role as ambassadors of peace and custodians of tradition and in support of the state government and people of the state”.

“We wish to inform the general public, that the council will invoke native and traditional sanctions to serve as deterrence against the perpetrators of kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminalities and vices in our dear state.”

“This is consequent upon the continuous violation of public peace in the aftermath of the #EndSARS riots and other challenges in the state and the effort shall take the council to all the 18 local government areas of the state.

“We don’t have any other state, but Cross River state, so we must work together to enthrone and sustain an enduring peace in our dear state”the statement said.

The traditional rulers urged all lawful visitors and indigenes to go about their normal daily businesses without fear,saying the spiritual sanctions will only be for criminals.
