Troops of the Presidential Taskforce on Hydrocarbon Crimes have discovered a large illegal oil production site in the creeks of Bonny Island in Rivers State, South-South Nigeria.
The discovery followed an intensive surveillance around Bonny and its environs with a view to rid the environment of criminal elements.
Commanding Officer, Forward Operating Base of the Nigerian Navy Bonny, Stanley Umeh, said the discovery is one of the agency’s major breakthrough since its inauguration.
The massive illegal refining facility hidden in the heart of the Bonny rain forest is estimated to process about 40,000 litres of crude daily.
