Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have foiled a terrorist ambush along the Anka–Guruzu Road in Zamfara State, while rescuing two abducted herders and recovering 520 livestock in Sokoto State.
The operations, according to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Tamuno Sinivie, involved troops of Sector Two and were conducted as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and protect vulnerable communities in the North-West.
The first incident occurred along the Anka–Guruzu Road in Zamfara State, where troops of Sector Two, while conducting a fighting patrol to clear the route following reports of terrorist activities, came under a coordinated ambush by armed terrorists positioned on both sides of the road.
The troops reportedly responded with overwhelming firepower, fought their way through the ambush and inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers, who subsequently fled the scene.
However, one soldier sustained a gunshot injury during the exchange of fire and was promptly evacuated for medical attention.
In a related development, on October 28, 2026, troops of Sector Two foiled an attempt by terrorists to rustle livestock and abduct herders in Takasaba Village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon the operation and flee. The troops subsequently recovered 520 livestock and rescued two abducted herders.
The Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, commended the troops for their gallantry and fighting spirit, urging them to sustain the offensive against terrorist elements across the region.
The military says the operations form part of its continued efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, protect lives and property, and restore security across the North-West.
