Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two key terrorist commanders during an intelligence-led operation in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The operation also reportedly left notorious terrorist leader Kachalla Muhammadu Filani wounded, as he escaped the encounter.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.
The operation was conducted on August 31, 2026, around Kogo Village in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina state following intelligence that Kachalla Muhammadu Filani and members of his network were operating in the area.
Troops of Sector Two moved in on the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce gun battle.
The encounter resulted in the neutralisation of two key commanders within the network.
They were identified as Mamiyo, described as a notorious gunrunner and second-in-command to Kachalla Muhammadu Filani, and Umar Bocho, another senior figure in the terrorist network.

According to the Joint Task Force, Muhammadu Filani escaped from the scene with gunshot wounds, while troops continued to exploit the area.
The military says the operation represents a significant setback for Filani’s network, particularly with the elimination of two key commanders believed to be instrumental to sustaining its criminal activities.
The troops have also intensified efforts to track down other members of the group as operations continue.
