Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled separate terrorist abduction attempts, rescued 16 civilians, and repelled terrorist attacks in parts of Sokoto and Zamfara States.
The operations took place on August 28, 2026, according to separate statements issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North West Operations, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, and the Zamfara State Police Spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar.
In the early hours of August 28, Troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call over an attempted terrorist attack on a community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The terrorists, who were attempting to abduct residents, fled upon the arrival of the troops, leading to the rescue of four civilians.
Later the same day, troops responded to information on terrorist activities around Kwanoni village in Tsafe Local Government Area.
The terrorists had reportedly attempted to abduct passengers travelling in two vehicles when troops engaged them in a firefight, forcing the attackers to withdraw and abandon their victims.
The passengers were subsequently rescued by the troops.
In a separate incident in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, terrorists launched an attack around Jabo village.
Troops deployed to the area engaged the attackers with superior firepower, compelling them to withdraw in disarray.
Two civilians sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and were rescued for medical attention.
The Joint Task Force says the successful rescue of the civilians and the repulsion of the attacks demonstrate its determination and rapid response in protecting communities and safeguarding lives across the North West.
