The Kabiru Turaki-led interim leadership of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP is set to ratify former President, Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election, further deepening political realignments within the opposition party.
The planned endorsement follows recent moves by the factional PDP leadership to grant the former President a waiver and clear him as a presidential aspirant, citing his extensive political experience and previous service as deputy governor, governor, vice president, and president.

The information in a notice seen by AIT.luve says the ratification of the nomination of Jonathan will take place at a Special National Convention scheduled for Saturday in Abuja.
Party members aligned with the Turaki-led faction believe Jonathan’s candidacy could strengthen the PDP’s chances in the next presidential poll, especially amid ongoing internal divisions and leadership disputes within the party.
The development comes as different blocs within the party continue to battle for control of the PDP’s structure, endorsing different candidates and pursuing separate political strategies ahead of the 2027 polls.
