At least two persons were shot dead, on Tuesday in an attack linked to a protracted war between the people of Ukawu, Abaomege, and Isinkwo communities in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria.
The two slain persons are said to hail from the Ukawu community.
A source says the victims, one being his uncle’s wife, were going to Abakaliki, the state capital in the morning when they were attacked.

Police spokesperson in the state, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirming the incident, said a police officer who was returning home after the close of work that morning, was also shot but survived and now responding to treatment.
She notes that the act is suspected to be carried out by Ishinkwo warriors, adding that an intensive Manhunt was on for the fleeing suspects.
The dispute over land ownership by the three communities has led to the death of dozens of people over the years, as many houses and other properties have also been destroyed on all sides.
