Police have confirmed the abduction of over 25 people following an attack by gunmen in Ayegunle Igun, located within the Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, North-Central Nigeria.
Reports indicate that the gunmen stormed the community in the early hours of Monday. Two individuals were fatally shot by the suspected bandits while attempting to escape.
The remaining victims are believed to be passengers of a commercial bus that was intercepted by the gunmen while transiting through the area.
Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, confirmed the incident during the passing-out parade of 565 newly trained police constables at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja.
While preliminary reports from the scene initially noted one death and one injury, police tracking has since updated the casualties.
The Police Commissioner assured the public that joint security agencies have launched a manhunt to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend the attackers. Investigation into the incident remains active.
