Ethiopia’s action is coming following the the release of reports, which alledged that hundreds of thousands of people are starving to death in northern Ethiopia.
The U.S. Says it is deeply concerned that this action continues a pattern by the Ethiopian government, of obstructing the delivery of food, medicine, and other lifesaving supplies, that is most needed in the area.
The U.S therefore called on the U.N. Security Council and members of the international community, to take urgent action to make it clear to the government of Ethiopia that, depriving its citizens of the basic means of survival is unacceptable.
President Joe Biden, had signed an executive order, earlier in September, which enabled the U.S. government to impose financial sanctions on those prolonging the conflict in northern Ethiopia.
