The United Kingdom has announced the appointment of Vicky Seymour as Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja.

She succeeds Gill Lever, who completed her posting in June 2026.

In a statement issued by the British High Commission in Abuja, the Commission said Seymour has now assumed duty.

In her new role, she will support and strengthen the UK’s partnership with Nigeria across economic growth, security, migration, development, international collaboration, and people-to-people ties.

Ms. Seymour brings more than two decades of experience in diplomacy, international development, and government service.

Most recently, she served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), a position she held since 2023. Prior to that, she led the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and served as Development Director in Mozambique.

Her career has also included senior leadership roles across Africa — in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo — as well as in Afghanistan. She has worked extensively on climate, security, and economic development.

Before joining the civil service, Ms. Seymour worked in the not-for-profit sector, with a focus on migration.
