The United Kingdom and Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations as Nigeria’s new High Commissioner to the UK, Ambassador Amin Isa Dalhatu, held a courtesy meeting with Kate Osamor MP, Chair of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK, at Nigeria House in London.
The meeting comes at a significant period in UK-Nigeria relations, following President Bola Tinubu’s historic state visit to the UK earlier this year, the signing of a new UK-Nigeria migration agreement and the arrival of a new British Prime Minister in Downing Street.
Ambassador Dalhatu, who recently arrived in London to take up his post at Nigeria’s flagship diplomatic mission, the oldest and largest Nigerian High Commission in the world welcomed Osamor and her delegation.
Discussions centered on strengthening UK-Nigeria diplomatic relations, diaspora engagement, and the full range of bilateral matters affecting both countries.
According to the High Commissioner, his priorities include, reversing the decline in British investment into Nigeria, building a comprehensive database of Nigerians living in the UK, Strengthening trade and private sector ties between both nations
Osamor, one of the most influential voices on Africa and the Commonwealth in the House of Commons, also emphasized the role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing Commonwealth values and people-to-people connections.
Also present at the meeting were senior officials of the Nigeria High Commission and members of the CPA UK delegation.
The engagement signals a renewed push to reposition the mission to better serve the large Nigerian diaspora in Britain while expanding economic and political cooperation.
As both countries navigate a new chapter in their relationship, the meeting at Nigeria House highlights ongoing efforts to sustain momentum and deliver tangible benefits for citizens of both nations.
