The Executive Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, has been named Travel Personality of the Year and listed among Nigeria’s Top 100 Travel and Tourism Icons for 2025/2026.
The recognition, determined through public voting, honours Okonkwo’s leadership and his role in the growth of United Nigeria Airlines since its establishment.
The airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, Adedayo Olawuyi, received the award on his behalf at the 22nd Akwaaba African Travel Market held in Lagos.

Organiser of the Travellers Awards, Ikechi Uko, said the recognition reflects the rapid growth of United Nigeria Airlines in less than six years and its contribution to Nigeria’s travel industry.
Uko said the airline, under Okonkwo’s leadership, has focused on expanding access to air travel, improving connectivity and operational efficiency, while providing greater convenience and seamless experiences for passengers.
The Travellers Awards, established in 1996, recognise individuals, organisations and businesses that have made notable contributions to aviation, travel and tourism across Nigeria and Africa.
Speaking on the award, Olawuyi said the recognition demonstrates that a well-managed, passenger-focused domestic airline can thrive in Nigeria’s aviation industry, while reaffirming United Nigeria Airlines’ commitment to improving the quality of domestic air travel.
