The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, is advocating for legislation to make breastfeeding mothers have 6 months of compulsory maternity leave, to enable them to exclusively breastfeed children between up to 6 months old.
The UNICEF Nutrition Manager, Kano Field Office, Elhadji Diop made the appeal to the Katsina State government during the launch of the year 2022 Breastfeeding Week

He said the result of the recent report by the Multi-Indicator Cluster Survey, MICS, showed only 2 out of 10 newborns in Katsina are exclusively breastfed.
