As the world marks the 2026 World and African Immunisation Week, both the United Nations Children’s Fund, other partners and the Niger state government have restated their commitment to ensuring that no child dies from vaccine-preventable diseases.

This is despite mothers and caregivers who understand the benefits of immunisation agreeing to champion the cause in their respective localities.

During the flag-off immunisation for the 2026 World and African Immunisation Week, the Niger State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Niger State Primary Health Care Development Agency, World Health Organisation, UNICEF, and other development partners, raised awareness on vaccine importance, and improved child and maternal health outcomes across the state.

An expectant mother Aisha Isah and another nursing mother, Khulthum Aliyu, called on mothers and pregnant women to prioritise vaccination if they want to have healthy children.

Both the health ministry and UNICEF have pledged to vaccinate approximately 4 million children as part of the drive to reach zero-dose children.
