The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has partnered with the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to address the growing number of out-of-school children in the state, calling for an urgent multi-sectoral response.
UNICEF Education Specialist, Believe Eke, made the call in Makurdi during a three-day workshop organised to operationalise the recently launched “Brace-Up Enrollment Project.”
According to UNICEF, Nigeria accounts for about 18.3 million out-of-school children, representing nearly 15 percent of the global total.
Benue SUBEB said more than 16,000 out-of-school children have so far been identified and profiled under the project aimed at strengthening school enrollment across the state.
Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Dr. Grace Adagba, also highlighted investments by the Benue State Government to support the return of children to classrooms.
