Some students at the University of Jos have expressed gratitude for the suspension of the eight-month strike embarked upon by the academic staff union of universities.
They are however, calling for a permanent solution to the strikes so that students can have a smooth academic calendar.
A visit to the University of Jos reveals only a handful of lecturers and students on the ground to assess the situation following the strike’s suspension. Some students and business owners say the suspension came as a big relief.

They are optimistic that within the shortest possible time, full academic activities will commence.
The government, they noted, must ensure it gives priority to education as it’s done in other countries.
With the suspension of the strike action by ASUU, it remains to be seen how the Nigerian government will honour the agreement reached so far to avoid a total collapse of public tertiary education.
