United Nations expresses concern over 17,000 Ambazonian refugees in Taraba

As the number of refugees fleeing the anglophone crisis in Southern Cameroun to  Nigeria increases by the day, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees has reiterated the need for a cease fire.

Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku, hosted a delegation from the commission, and issues concerning the welfare of the Cameroonian refugees took a major part of the discussions.

The Governor assured of continous support for the refugees.

At least 70,000 refugees fleeing the anglophone crisis in Southern Cameroon are seeking asylum in Nigeria, and the exodus continues into border states like Taraba.

About 17,000 of these refugees, are spread across 5 Local Government Areas in the state.

Local communities and the state government are the first responders to the new arrivals, as they provided shelter, food and other immediate necessities.

Governor Darius Ishaku said, the state will sustain its support for the refugees, and encouraged  border communities to do same.

The Governor was speaking, when he received a team from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, led by its Country Director, Kapaya Chansa.

United Nation’s High Commission for Refugees, presented the Taraba State Government with 4 Mountain motorcycles, and a jeep, to help contain insecurity in border areas.

The Country Director, Kapaya Chansa, called for a ceasefire, in the Ambazonian war in Cameroon, to stop the refugee crisis from detoriating.

UNHCR also commended the Taraba State Government, for hosting the the refugees.
