Voters’ Registration: Kano REC blames low turn out on farming, rainy season

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Kano State, Professor Riskuwa Shehu, has blamed the low turn out of people for the Continuous Voters Registration, on the rainy and farming season.

Riskuwa said, the commission has so far registered 2,977 persons, which fall short of its expectations.

The continuous voters’ registration commenced on the 28th of June, to enable Nigerians of 18 years and above get registered.

The exercise which will also cater for registered voters seeking for transfer, and those who wish to correct their information, has however recorded low turn out in Kano State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in the state, Professor Riskuwa Shehu, urged the people to utilize the online platform for the registration, or visit any of the commission’s centres.

He also called on the residents to avoid late hour registration.

The Continuous Voters Registration is expected to close by the third quarter of 2022, as the country prepares for the general elections in 2023.
