Vice President Kashim Shettima has directed the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, to embark on infrastructure development.

Shettima issued the directive while receiving the board and management of NAHCON, and representatives of State Pilgrims Welfare Boards at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The delegation briefed the Vice President on the just concluded 2026 Hajj exercise and projections for future operations. Shettima praised NAHCON, the state boards and other stakeholders for an almost hitch-free performance, saying the 2026 exercise should serve as the benchmark going forward.

The Vice President noted that authorities must now move towards a more sustainable model that guarantees 100% hitch-free pilgrimage. He said government will support every effort aimed at improving service delivery and the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims.

Earlier, NAHCON Chairman, Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, said Saudi authorities have decided to migrate to a business-to-business model under Vision 2030, with 98% of pilgrims to be handled by private tour operators. He assured that the commission remains committed to its regulatory role and has begun plans to actualise the new arrangement.
