The World Health Organization, W.H.O has declared the Mpox outbreak in Africa as a global health emergency.
WHO Director-General, Tedros Ghebreyesus, said during a virtual meeting that the declaration is coming amid concerns that a deadlier strain of the virus, clade Ib, has reached four previously unaffected countries on the continent.
WHO is declaring Mpox a public health emergency barely 24 hours after the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, Africa CDC Emergency Mpox Committee continental security meeting.
The strain had previously been contained to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
