Nigeria senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons will fly out to Morocco on Wednesday, June 25 for a 10-day final preparatory camp ahead of the 2024 WAFCON tournament, which will be played from July 5 to 26 in the North African country.
This will come up after a brief training camp in Portugal, where the Falcons will play their Portuguese counterparts in a friendly on Monday, June 23.
With the provisional squad expected to be announced before then, the team will also face their arch-rivals, Ghana, before the tournament.
The team is also expected to depart Portugal on Wednesday, June 25, ahead of their second warm-up game against Ghana in Morocco.
Ghana’s Black Queens arrived in Benslimane, Morocco, on Tuesday for a 14-day training camp ahead of the tournament.
Nigeria will be aiming for a 10th continental title in Morocco. They won nine of the 12 championships that have been contested since CAF launched the event as a tournament in 1998 – to become Africa’s most decorated women’s national team.
The Super Falcons also won the lone ticket granted to Africa for the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in 1991 (China) and 1995 (Sweden), but there was no tournament-format Africa Cup of Nations competition in those years.

The Coach Justin Madugu’s side are in Group B where they will face Tunisia, Algeria and Botswana.
The Super Falcons will begin their quest for the title they last won in 2018 on July 6, with an opening Group B match against Tunisia at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
After their triumph in 2018, the Super Falcons had a failed bid to retain their title in Morocco in 2022, finishing in a disappointing fourth position.
Ahead of another outing in Morocco, the Nigeria Football Federation NFF says it has set in motion a media campaign, nicknamed Mission X, to mobilise and galvanise Nigerian ball fans at home and in the diaspora to support the Super Falcons’ quest for a 10th WAFCON title.
“We are committed to fully supporting the Super Falcons’ campaign for a 10th continental title, and that is why we are launching the Mission X campaign to sensitise football-loving Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, young and old, in high and low places, male and female, to also come out and support the team.”
“The Super Falcons remain the most decorated national team in African football. We are proud of what they have achieved and what they intend to achieve in Morocco,” NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, said from the United States of America on Tuesday.
