President Bola Tinubu says his administration will not bow to pressure from criminal groups or pay ransom to secure the release of victims, insisting that perpetrators of violent crimes must face justice.
The President stated this on Thursday in Abuja while receiving traditional rulers from Oyo State, led by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja during a courtesy visit at the State House.
President Tinubu commended the Armed Forces and other security agencies for the successful rescue operation in Oyo State, attributing the achievement to their bravery, dedication and the support of Nigerians.

He disclosed that the Federal Government is expanding military capacity by increasing the number of Army divisions from eight to twelve to reduce response time and strengthen the fight against terrorism and banditry.
President Tinubu also revealed that criminal groups involved in kidnappings had demanded the release of detained members of their gangs as part of conditions for negotiations, but said the government rejected such demands.
“We refuse to negotiate with criminals. They committed murder, and we are ready to deal with them,” the President said.
He said the administration was moving ahead with the establishment of State Police, with safeguards to prevent abuse, while also strengthening the capacity of Forest guards to tackle criminals operating in remote areas.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, know their neighbourhoods and report suspicious activities, stressing that intelligence remains a major tool in the fight against insecurity.
He also called on State Governors to prioritise infrastructure projects that would improve security operations, particularly roads that would enhance access to difficult terrains.
The President acknowledged the complexity of Nigeria’s security challenges, but expressed confidence that the country was making progress.
He praised security personnel for their sacrifices and urged traditional rulers to continue supporting government efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.
