Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged Nigerians to reject politicians he describes as political gamblers, accusing them of using deceit and the plight of vulnerable people to pursue personal ambitions.
Speaking at the inaugural Idoma Hall of Fame induction ceremony during the Idoma Centenary Plus celebration, Wike questioned the sincerity of politicians who, he said, ignored the downtrodden while in office but now celebrate birthdays in IDP camps in pursuit of presidential ambitions.
Delivering a keynote address titled “People, Politics and Power Play in Nigeria: The Agitation for Equity and Fairness,” Wike urged Nigerians to look beyond ethnic sentiments and political calculations when choosing their leaders.
He stressed the need to prioritise competence, fairness, accountability and service delivery, warning that calls for equity and fairness must not be exploited for personal or sectional interests.
