A coalition of more than 300 women’s organisations, under the Womanifesto movement has launched a new nationwide campaign aimed at strengthening survivor-led efforts to end sexual and gender-based violence in Nigeria.
The Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Project, supported by ActionAid Nigeria, will kick off in Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory, and Enugu.
The initiative seeks to empower women and survivors to take the lead in advocacy, while pushing for stronger enforcement of existing laws that protect women and girls.
Speaking on the project, Womanifesto Co-Convener, Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, said the initiative will connect grassroots women to national advocacy platforms, improve collaboration with government institutions, and promote policies that advance gender equality.
The project will also create a national database of grassroots women activists and survivors, establish rapid-response communication platforms, and provide safe spaces, mentorship, and community dialogues to strengthen women’s leadership.
