Some women from the Lanfewa market in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital have staged a rally to protest the alleged carting of over 100 bags of rice by operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service early Thursday.
The women traders while narrating their ordeal said the operatives broke into their warehouse around 2:00am to forcefully take possession of their bags of rice.
The Public Relations officer of the Nigeria Customs, Ogun 1 Command,, Hammed Oloyede, who spoke with ait.live Correspondent on telephone said importing bags of rice through land borders into the country is prohibited.
Oloyede in reaction to the Abeokuta Market incident, advised Nigerians against smuggling of prohibited goods into the country, noting that such act is illegal.
