Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kwara, Muritala Olayinka, and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Abdulrahman Onikijipa, have decried rising insecurity, killings, kidnappings, and deepening poverty affecting workers, farmers, and travellers across the state.

They raised the concern during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration in Ilorin, the state capital warning that traders now struggle to move goods due to safety fears, a situation they say is disrupting productivity and weakening the state’s economy.

The labour leaders urged the Kwara State and Federal Governments to prioritise workers’ safety, stressing that the minimum wage has been eroded by inflation and fuel costs, while calling for stronger social protection measures. Acting Head of Service, Dr. Mercy Shittu, who represented the governor, assured of efforts to address the challenges.
