The Acting Executive Secretary, Kogi State Agency for the Control of Aids, (KOSACA) Ibrahim Anate, says over 50,000 people are currently living with HIV AIDs in Kogi State. with 36,066 of them already receiving treatment.
Ibrahim Anate said this at an event in commemoration of the 2024 world AIDS Day in Lokoja, which was organized by the Centre for integrated health programs (CIHP) in collaboration with Kogi State agency for the control of aids.
The Acting Executive Secretary, Kogi State Agency for the Control of Aids, (KOSACA) Ibrahim Anate, explained that about
36,066 persons living with HIV AIDs are presently receiving treatment in Kogi State, while the Government has continued to ensure that they are well protected and not stigmatized.
One of the biggest worries for the agency is the security situation of the State which is preventing some of the HIV patients from accessing treatment.
Some stakeholders in the health sector also expressed worries over the transmision of HIV from mother to Child.
Others noted that the State Government should expressly give ascent to the anti HIV stigma law to stop all forms of stigmatization of people living with HIV AIDs in Kogi State.
