Nigeria’s Education Minister Professor Tahir Mamman says the federal government is working at improving on UNESCO’s latest figure of six illiterate children out of ten in sub saharan Africa.
At a briefing in Abuja to mark this year’s World Literacy Day, Professor Mamman reminded development partners that government acknowledges the 10.5 million out of school children figure and iis putting together strategies to address the problem.

In another development, President of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff, Smart Olugbeko at a Symposium on Teacher Education: Challenges and Prospects , says government must make efforts to improve teaching and learning to address the out of school children syndrome.
The COEASU Symposium was in honour of an educationist and COEASU President between 2004 and 2008, Remi Makinde, who retired at the age of 65.
