Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has congratulated journalists in the state and across Nigeria on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, observed annually on May 3.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor commended journalists for their resilience, courage, and professionalism in upholding the principles of truth, accountability, and public enlightenment despite prevailing challenges.

He highlighted the critical role of the media in strengthening democracy, promoting transparency, and advancing good governance, describing a free, independent, and responsible press as essential to any progressive society.

Governor Mohammed expressed appreciation for the sacrifices made by media practitioners in keeping citizens informed, noting that their commitment to truth and fairness continues to support democratic growth and stability.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining a media-friendly environment in Bauchi State, assuring that journalists will operate freely and responsibly without fear or intimidation.

He urged media practitioners to adhere strictly to professional ethics, with emphasis on accuracy, objectivity, and the promotion of national unity in their reportage.

Governor Mohammed further called on stakeholders to support and protect press freedom as a fundamental human right necessary for sustainable development while encouraging journalists to embrace innovation in the evolving media landscape.
