Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal has unveiled a multi-million dollar Lithium Processing Plant in Boko, Zurmi Local Government Area of the state.
The governor said the project is aimed at harnessing Zamfara’s vast solid mineral resources and promoting industrial development.
The Zamfara State Government is of the view that the unveiling of the Lithium Processing Plant, in partnership with private investors, marks a major milestone in the state’s mining sector.
It described the project as the beginning of a new era focused on responsible mining, industrial growth, job creation, and the sustainable development of the state’s abundant mineral resources.
Governor Dauda Lawal said his administration has remained committed to transforming Zamfara’s mining sector by moving from informal mining activities to an organized, value-driven industry capable of competing in the global economy.
Representatives of the investment partners said the project is a significant step towards establishing a world-class lithium processing value chain in West Africa. They added that the initiative will further strengthen industrial cooperation between Nigeria and China.
The Emir of Moriki, Bashir Ismail Iri, whose emirate hosts the processing plant, welcomed the investment and expressed optimism that it would create employment opportunities and improve the socio-economic wellbeing of people in the community.
When fully operational, the Lithium Processing Plant is expected to process about 6,000 tonnes of raw minerals daily, equivalent to nearly 2 million tonnes annually. The project is expected to boost Zamfara State’s internally generated revenue, stimulate economic growth, and encourage local entrepreneurship.
