Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal says, from 2015 to date, the state has had over thirteen point six billion Naira liabilities in gratuities and pension allowances to be settled for retirees.
The governor disclosed this during the Annual General Meeting of the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries of Nigeria, Zamfara State Chapter, in Gusau, the state capital.
Zamfara State has a huge backlog of gratuities and pensions, to the tune of thirteen point six billion Naira to settle retired civil servants, according to Governor Dausa Lawal.
He promised to start the payment of the outstanding gratuities and pension allowances, towards ensuring the welfare of the retired civil servants in the state.

Governor Lawal said, on assumption of office, his administration introduced far-reaching measures, to reduce the cost of governance, by trimming the number of ministries and commissioners to eighteen.
He disclosed that he constituted a committee, with the mandate to conduct a staff’s verification of all the ministries, to ascertain the exact number, for improved welfare and maximum productivity.
The Vice Chairman of the Association of Retired Permanent Secretaries of Nigeria, Zamfara State Chapter, Muhammad Bello, who read the chairman’s speech, commended the Governor Dauda Lawal-led administration, for blocking revenue leakages, ensuring prudent management of resources, an effort to reposition the education sector, and payment of examination fees for students, among others in the state.
The Emir of Gusau, who is the chairman of the board of trustees of the association, called on Governor Dauda Lawal to look at the plight of the retirees and settle their entitlements.
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, pledges to accede to the demands of the retired permanent secretaries, provide a befitting office complex and reduce the outstanding gratuities and pension allowances of the retirees.
