Senator Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u Kaura has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Zamfara North Senatorial District.
The victory follows the nullification of the earlier primary election by the Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto, which upheld the judgment of the Zamfara State High Court in a suit filed by Sanusi Abdullahi Shinkafi.
Announcing the results in Gusau on Monday, the Chairman of the APC Senatorial Primary Election Committee for Zamfara North, Dr. Auwal Abdullahi Aliyu said three aspirants contested the primary election.
According to the results announced by Dr. Aliyu, Senator Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u scored 49,176 votes, Alhaji Tijjani Yahaya secured 9,628 votes, while Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi polled 2,602 votes.
Dr. Aliyu said Senator Ya’u satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and electoral guidelines and secured the highest number of votes and returns elected
However, the primary election was marred by violence and parallel declarations of results.
In a separate declaration, another returning officer for the Zamfara North Senatorial District APC primary election, Abdullahi Aliyu, declared Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura the winner.

According to the parallel results, Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura scored 16,758 votes to defeat other contenders, with Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u polling 1,465 votes, while Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi secured 1,447 votes.
The two conflicting declarations have created uncertainty over the APC’s candidate for the Zamfara North Senatorial District election.
