Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal has distributed 50 mass transit buses to members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.
The gesture is part of efforts to boost economic activities and increase the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR.
The buses were provided to beneficiaries at a 50% subsidised cost.
The governor said the initiative is in line with his administration’s commitment to revitalising key sectors of the economy and fulfilling the promises of his campaign.
The distribution marks the first phase of the state government’s mass transit programme, with 50 of the planned 100 buses handed over to transporters across the State.
The Lawal administration says the initiative is expected to create employment opportunities, improve public transportation, stimulate economic activities, and enhance the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.
Also at the event, Governor Lawal presented seven modern fire service vehicles to the Zamfara State Fire Service. He said the new firefighting trucks will strengthen the state’s emergency response capacity and improve the protection of lives and property from fire outbreaks.
