Lawmakers, religious leaders and traditional rulers from Zamfara State say, efforts are underway to domesticate the Child Rights Act in the state.
Zamfara is among the eleven states in the country yet to domesticate the act, meant to protect children from sexual violence, abuse, forced marriage and other ills.
Nigeria adopted the Child Rights Act in 2003.

Zamfara State Commissioner for Women, Children And Social Development, Zainab Gumi says, children are not safe in the country, hence the need to pass a law that will protect them.
Religious and traditional leaders at the meeting commend the state government, and called for speedy passage of the law, so that children’s privileges can be protected.
The choice of Kano for the meeting was to avoid distraction during deliberations.
