Cross River State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade says henceforth, no citizen will be visually impaired on account of preventable and treatable diseases irrespective of state of origin, religion or race.

Ayade stated this during the flag off of 1,000 free eye care surgeries for those with eye problems in all the 18 local government areas of Cross River State.

Represented by Commissioner for Health, Dr. Betta Edu, the Governor while urging the citizens to make use of the opportunity, said eye screening and treatment camps have been set up in all the local governments starting from Akampa LGA.

The Governor explained that over 30,000 free eye surgeries have been done in the state in the last 15 years in Calabar in partnership with an Indian NGO Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, assuring that, this time it will be in all local government areas.

Some of the traditional rulers and community leaders who came out in their numbers for eye screening commended Governor Ayade for the efforts to improve their sight.
