The 2019/2020 French league (ligue 1 and ligue 2) has been cancelled making it the third league in Europe to end its season prematurely.

The cancellation came after France banned all sporting events, including behind closed doors, until September.

The Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe who made this know today said the 2019-2020 sporting season is over as he announced plans to ease France’s coronavirus lockdown on May 11, 2020.

French football’s governing body had hoped to resume the season on June 17, 2020 and finish the campaign on July 25, 2020.

The European leagues have until May 25, 2020 to tell European football’s governing body UEFA whether they want to complete or cancel their seasons.
