About 2,600 women across the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa state have been empowered under the federal government’s cash grant scheme for rural women aimed at reducing poverty.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq in a message during the disbursement of the grant in Lafia the Nasarawa state capital said the initiative will also help the women especially with the second wave of the pandemic.
The grant of #20,000 to the 2600 women is under the first batch of a disbursement program which is expected to cover over 150, 000 poor and vulnerable rural women across the 36 States of the country and the FCT.
Sadiya Farouq, represented by the Minister of State Science and Technology, Ibrahim Mohammed, said the grant by the federal government is expected to increase access to financial services for economic activities.

He also noted that the grant disbursed will assist some of the rural women to be self reliant.

Some of the beneficiaries commended the federal government for the gesture and timing of providing the grant
The women ,however appealed to the government to scale up the programme so as to accommodate more women as well as training and skills acquisition to further promote and enhance small businesses.
