The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee has elevated 62 lawyers including 9 academics to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The body which is headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola described those elevated as having distinguished themselves as advocates and academics.

The announcement followed the conclusion of the 154th plenary session of the committee in Abuja, presided by the Chief Justice.
Prominent among those conferred with the S.A.N rank are Former Special UN rapporteur on trafficking in persons and Professor of law Joy Ezeilo, a prosecutor with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Sylvanus Tahir and a Former EFCC Prosecutor Wahab Shittu.
Meanwhile, the Privileges Committee has approved new guidelines for the conferment of the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. Details of it are not yet out but AIT learnt it was initiated to make the process stricter so as not to water down the exclusivity of the rank.
