No fewer than 5,000 people are said to have been displaced and are now stranded following the deadly attack carried out by suspected herdsmen in some villages in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, North Central Nigeria.
AIT visited some of the camps where the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, are now sleeping in open-plan non-residential buildings provided by churches in Bokkos town.
The IDPs found refuge after they were rendered homeless with their loved ones killed and properties destroyed.
The Church of Christ in Nations, COCIN, Bokkos Central, has the highest number of IDPs, while others are in ECWA Bishara 1 and the Christ Apostolic Church Bokkos all from the attack in Kwatas, which later spread to Ruboi and Marish villages.
From the records available, there are more than 5,000 displaced persons mainly women and children.

Since the attack took place, the Churches provide food and mats for the IDPs but not much is available to go round.
The situation could be best described as the worst humanitarian problem in the state in recent times.
