Ahead of March 18 Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections, two major opposition parties have called for reversal of the directive by Gombe State Government to dismantle all security checkpoints. The two parties are the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP.

Though the State Government says there are no sinister motives for the removal of the checkpoints, the PDP Governorship Campaign Council and the NNPP Governorship candidate, Khamis Maliantarki describe the move as a source of concern coming close to the March 18 elections.

In another development the people of Bolari West community have petitioned security agencies over what they describe as inciting utterances by former coordinator of the campaign team of All Progressives, APC Governorship aspirant, Jamilu Ishayaku Gwanna.

The Gombe State Government spokesperson, Ismailia Missilli however says Jamilu Ishayaku Gwanna is a peaceful politician and his comments were misquoted. He insists that Gwanna is known to promote peaceful coexistence.

“The State Government is not associated with promoting violence thus the comments from the community were a creation of the PDP who are bent on creating chaos in their statements”

It appears, there will be more drama as the race for Governorship elections in Gombe State reaches its climax
