The wife of Zamfara State Governor, Aishatu Mohammed, says the fight against insecurity can be successful if women and the youths are empowered economically.

She said this in Kaura Namoda, during the empowerment programme for 1,800 women of communities ravaged by banditry activities in the state.

The beneficiaries are from the four local government areas of Zamfara North Senatorial District including Zurmi, Birnin Magaji, Shinkafi, and Kaura Namoda.

Banditry activities in Zamfara state have caused untold hardship to the residents, especially women and the youths.

This necessitated the need for the Zamfara State Government to provide support for the women, to enable them become economically self-reliant.

Mrs Mohammed said that empowering women is important to ensuring a better and secured society.

She reiterated her resolve to ensure that indigent women in the state have a formidable means of livelihood.

Other speakers at the programme commended the efforts of the First Lady at providing financial support for women to do business.

Meanwhile, youths in Delta State are canvassing for adequate empowerment policies as a way to check restiveness and insecurity in the country.

Some of the youths, who spoke to AIT in Warri, said the level of underdevelopment and sense of neglect of youths across Delta State and by extension Nigeria, is a dangerous trend that must be urgently addressed by the authorities.

The current level of insecurity in Nigeria has been attributed to long term neglect of the youths who make a large chunk of the country’s population.

Although, governments at different levels are quick to rollout different policies designed to tackle the situation, youths in Warri, Delta State, are of the opinion that such programmes have achieved little or nothing to give Nigerian youths a sense of belonging, blaming selfish politicians for their predicaments.

They specifically hit at the authorities in Delta State over some youth empowerment programmes which they described as a sham.

But the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, which is one of the agencies saddled with the responsibility of youth development in the state, said it is making efforts to improve the standards of living of the people especially the youths.

The youths are, therefore, calling on the political authorities in Delta State to double their efforts by running an inclusive system as they also called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to create a more enabling environment for industrialisation as a way to create jobs and engage more youths more meaningfully.
