The disagreement between drivers of heavy-duty vehicles popularly known as tipper drivers and the Anambra State Government is far from over as the drivers recently blocked the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway to drive home their grievances.

The protesters said that they are still being extorted as the State Government has failed to obey a Federal High Court judgement stopping the collection of certain levies from them.

The rift between the drivers of heavy-duty vehicles and the Anambra State Government over payment of certain levies dates back to 2014.

For nearly 6sixyears now, the drivers have on several occasions, protested in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

This time, commuters on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway leading to Asaba, faced a hectic time as the protesters pressed home their demand for the obedience of the court judgement delivered by Justice I. N. Oweibo in 2018.

It took the appeal and intervention of officers and men of the Naval Base Onitsha before the protesters allowed free flow of traffic on the ever-busy road.

The State Government on its part, insisted that there is no judgement prohibiting the collection of a toll on loading and offloading of every truck in the State.

While these protests, allegations, and counter-allegations linger, many said that a workable solution is long overdue and the two parties should resolve their differences before the situation gets out of control.
