The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated the governing board of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Thursday in Abuja, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono charged the newly appointed members of the board, to be committed to the responsibility of transforming the veterinary sub-sector in accordance with the green alternative policy and the livestock transformation agenda of the Federal Government.

He Says the Sub-Sector worth N31 Trillion Contributes 17 Percent of The Nation’s Gross domestic product.

In 2015, the board of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria was dissolved. This affected the council, especially in achieving its mandate as absence of the board crippled activities of the council.

To revitalise the sub-sector and tap from its huge potentials, government selected distinguished members of the council to govern the board.

The minister urged the board members to be transparent, fair, efficient and effective in implementing the council’s mandate.

With the board re-constituted, the minister said he expects that the Veterinary Council of Nigeria will embark on radical transformation of the sub-sector, in line with the green alternative playing it part in turning Nigeria into a global powerhower in food production.
